Samsung’s latest foldable phones, the Galaxy Z Fold6 and Galaxy Z Flip6, have become the first devices to support the Gemini Nano AI model, which can operate locally. However, at this time, the model is not fully integrated with Galaxy AI, meaning that these two systems function independently. Text-based features such as chat support, note-taking assistance, text recording, or browser support have not yet been included in this model.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 / Flip6 use the Gemini Nano AI model: Not yet integrated with Galaxy AI
The Galaxy Z Fold6 and Galaxy Z Flip6 come with the AICore service, integrated into the Android system. This service is used to download, update, and provide APIs for the Gemini Nano AI model.
To check if your device has downloaded this model, you can look at the size of the AICore service. If the size is around ~50MB, the model has not yet been downloaded, but if it’s over ~1GB, the model has already been installed on your device.
One of the features offered by the Gemini Nano AI model includes the Magic Compose function in Google Messages, which allows you to send suggested messages to your contacts using the last 20 messages. However, since the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6, Galaxy Z Flip6, and Galaxy S24 series do not have the Pixel Recorder app, summary and Gboard’s smart reply functions are currently unavailable.
To enable these features, the relevant APIs or services in AICore need to be activated. While Samsung’s new models have attracted attention with their AI capabilities, how these innovations will translate into user experience remains to be seen.
